About the role

The Ceredigion Looked After Children and Leaving Care Service are looking for a social worker to join a busy and supportive team of social work staff.

The LAC Social worker will be responsible for a number of young people who are looked after and will be required to carry out statutory duties in relation to their role as the allocated social worker and develop and monitor individual care and support plans for each child.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed social worker who has experience in working with children and families and is able to manage their caseload as well as undertake statutory visits within timescales as required.

The applicant will need to be well organized and sensitive to the complexities of direct family work and adopt an anti-oppressive stance in their practice at all times. The applicant will be expected to prepare court papers, attend court and other regular meetings as part of their duties and attend child protection conferences and reviews.

The expectation is that the social worker will work in a collaborative way with other agencies and Departments to promote the wellbeing of the child in accordance with the individual care and support plan.

Regular supervision will be provided and access to relevant training and opportunities to develop personal professional practice will be made available for the successful candidate.

A bilingual policy is in operation and candidates who do not have the linguistic ability in Welsh will be supported and encouraged to achieve the ALTE standard within 2 years.

Safeguarding and Child Protection are key priorities for us. We aim to support vulnerable children and young people to ensure they are as safe as they can possibly be. Our educational establishments and we acknowledge that children and young people have a right to protection and will take action to safeguard their welfare. Each member of staff and volunteer is expected to share this commitment, and we will require an Enhanced Check by the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS), formerly CRB.

Children Services

We are responsible for early help and prevention services and the protection and care of children and families. We aim to support families to bring up their children themselves and work in partnership with parents and other carers. Where the child’s best interests require Social Care to look after them, we will assist the family to keep in contact.    We have responsibility for the following areas:

  • Operations: Business support; Performance management; Porth Gofal.
  • Prevention and Early Intervention: Emergency duty team; Family support service (Team around family, Tim teulu, Penparcau Family Centre); Flying Start; Youth justice and prevention service.
  • Safeguarding, Quality Assurance and Independent Review: Integrated family support service; Mid and West Wales Safeguarding Board (CYSUR); Nominated Child Protection Officer; Regional “Violence Against Women, Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence”; Schools service.
  • Statutory Services: Children and families assessment service team; Family placement service (family group meetings); Looked after children and leaving care; Mid and West Wales Adoption Service; Tim Plant Anabl.
