About the role

ERW, the regional school improvement consortium for Mid and West Wales, wishes to appoint an Interim Managing Director to strategically lead and manage our newly established team at this exciting time in education. Following extensive discussions with the local authorities, it has been decided to invite senior colleagues from schools and local authorities to express an interest in undertaking the position via a fixed-term secondment for one year. If you believe that you could bring skills and experience to help build ERW to fulfil its newly defined functions, we would be very pleased to hear from you. The successful candidate will remain on their substantive terms and conditions for the duration of the secondment.

The Managing Director position is vital to achieve a reformed regional partnership to deliver on school improvement across the region. ERW’s prime functions are to prepare schools for the new curriculum, build professional capacity and leadership development across the region.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual with the drive and determination to further develop our school improvement service. The successful candidate will need to have extensive experience as a senior manager in a multi-disciplinary organisation with a proven track record in developing, leading and implementing successful strategy and programmes. The ability to communicate through the medium of Welsh and English is an essential requirement for the post.

If you are an experienced leader from the secondary, primary or local authority sector and are able to secure the support of your governing body/director to release you on a full time basis for a period of 12 months, we would be pleased to hear from you.

If you wish to apply for the position, please email with your CV and expression of interest outlining the experience, expertise and leadership qualities you would bring to ERW as it seeks to support schools through education reform. Applications should be received by midday on Monday, 24th February 2020.

If you have any queries or would like to arrange an informal discussion regarding the position, please contact Andi Morgan on 01267 676840 or email

We look forward to hearing from you.
