About the role

We are looking to recruit a Level 1 Teaching Assistant to assist us in supporting and delivering learning until the end of the summer term 2021 (although there may be scope to extend this depending on pupil need). The ability to speak Welsh would be advantageous.

Ysgol Bro Pedr is located in the town of Lampeter, within the Ceredigion local authority. The school was one of the first 3-19 schools in Wales. The school was judged to be good in all aspects of the ESTYN report in 2016.  In addition to a large mainstream SEN provision (including a Life Skills provision which caters for mainstream pupils with moderate educational needs) Canolfan y Bont, a county resource base for secondary aged pupils with severe and profound needs, is located on the school site.

On a day to day basis you will:-

  • attend to the pupils’ personal needs, and implement related personal programmes, including social, health, physical, hygiene, first aid and welfare matters;
  • supervise and support pupils with special educational needs or English as an additional language ensuring their safety and access to learning;
  • assist with the development, implementation and review of Individual Education/Behaviour Plans and Personal Care programmes;
  • establish good relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and being aware of and responding appropriately to individual needs;
  • challenge and motivate pupils, promote and reinforce self-esteem;
  • provide feedback to pupils in relation to progress, achievement, behaviour, attendance etc;
  • promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils;
  • encourage pupils to interact with others and engage in activities led by the teacher;
  • encourage pupils to act independently as appropriate.

We are looking to recruit an individual:-

  • with good numeracy/literacy skills;
  • who will participate in development and training;
  • who works constructively and flexibly as part of a team, understanding classroom roles and responsibilities and their own position within these.

Our ideal candidate will enjoy working in a busy environment, using their own initiative, have a positive outlook and a genuine interest in supporting pupils in their learning.

The successful applicant will need to register with the Education Workforce Council in order to be appointed to this post.

In exchange for your skills and commitment, we will offer you a range of employee benefits including a generous pension contribution scheme.  More information about our wide-ranging employee benefits can be found here.  In addition, we are committed to developing our people and will provide support to enable you to quickly and confidently take ownership of this role’s key areas of responsibility.
