About the role

We are looking to recruit a Mentor to join our Employability Support team on a full time, fixed term basis.

You will be required to provide intensive one to one mentoring to participants to help them identify and take practical steps to overcome barriers preventing them taking up identified training and employment.

On a day to day basis you will:   

  • manage the recruitment, retention, training and development of participants, building positive relationships and developing effective processes to identify and overcome barriers as a pathway to employment as set out in the relevant guidance;
  • support participants during their period on the project and provide in-work benefits advice to assist them to move into sustainable employment;
  • work with participants who may have complex barriers (eg mental ill health, Learning difficulties, physical disabilities, sensory impairments, substance misuse or criminal convictions) on a 1:1 basis in various locations around the county to provide support with training, volunteer opportunities, work experience and paid employment.

We are looking to recruit an individual with:

  • experience of employment projects and working with unemployed people;
  • a thorough and up to date knowledge of employment and benefit issues and an understanding of welfare reform and the implications for participants;
  • knowledge of related services provided by the statutory and voluntary sector.

In addition to the above, we require an individual with a degree of fluency in the Welsh language. A successful applicant without the required Welsh language skill will be fully supported to reach the desired standard within two years of appointment.
