About the role

We are looking to recruit a Public Protection Assistant to join our busy Public Protection team on a full time, fixed term basis (until 31/03/2021), based at County Hall, Aberaeron.

This is an exciting new role within the service providing the opportunity to assist officers in their duties in food safety, health & safety, public protection, and animal health & welfare.

On a day to day basis you will: –

  • Assist in the inspection of commercial premises in relation to food hygiene, health & safety, animal welfare and public protection throughout the County.
  • Investigate cases of food poisoning, communicable disease, and zoonosis throughout the County.
  • Carry out monitoring duties (air, water, and food) of the Public Protection team.
  • To co-ordinate the provision of data for statutory returns and support.

We are looking to recruit an individual: –

  • A minimum of 5 GCSE’s  to include English or  Welsh and Mathematics.
  • Possess high level IT skills (including Word, Excel and other software packages) with the ability to quickly learn new IT programmes as required.
  • Honest, reliable and committed to the work of the Council
  • Ability to work alone or as part of a team.
  • Ability to work under pressure and be able to meet deadlines to an appropriate standard.
  • Able to retain sensitive and confidential information.

The post requires a degree of fluency in the Welsh language.   Please note that a successful applicant without the required Welsh language skill will be fully supported to reach the required standard within two years of appointment.
