We aim to create a hard working environment in which pupils can enjoy academic success, and develop personally and emotionally, by virtue of social and cultural activities.  Pupils are encouraged to do their best at all times, to achieve the highest possible standards for life during and after their school years.

Along with the Additional Learning Needs Department, the school also maintains a Specialist Speech, Language and Communication Resource Centre – Canolfan y Môr. The successful candidate will need to work flexibly as part of a team and be able to change the way they work to meet the diverse needs of the pupils.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. Each member of staff and volunteer is expected to share this commitment, and the school will require an Enhanced check by the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS), formerly CRB.

On a day to day basis you will:

  • attend to the pupils’ personal needs, and implement related personal programmes, including social, health, physical, hygiene, first aid and welfare matters
  • supervise and support pupils with special educational needs ensuring their safety and access to learning.
  • assist with the development, implementation and review of Individual Education/Behaviour Plans and Personal Care programmes
  • establish good relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and being aware of and responding appropriately to individual needs
  • challenge and motivate pupils, promote and reinforce self-esteem
  • provide feedback to pupils in relation to progress, achievement, behaviour, attendance etc
  • promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils
  • encourage pupils to interact with others and engage in activities led by the teacher
  • encourage pupils to act independently as appropriate.

We are looking to recruit an individual:

  • with good numeracy/literacy skills;
  • who will participate in development and training;
  • who works constructively and flexibly as part of a team understanding classroom roles and responsibilities and your own position within these.

Our ideal candidate will enjoy working in a busy environment, using their own initiative, have a positive outlook and a genuine interest in supporting pupils in their learning.

The successful applicant will need to register with the Education Workforce Council in order to be appointed to this post.
