About Traffic Wales

Traffic Wales is the Welsh Government’s traffic information service, which the Agent has been tasked with delivering on an all Wales basis.

We are looking for two highly motivated and enthusiastic Communications Co-ordinators to disseminate up to date, traffic information and engaging content to the travelling public via our phone line, website and social media channels in line with the requirements of Welsh Government.

What does the role entail?

Within this role, you’ll be acting as the initial point of contact for the service in both Welsh and English languages by providing speedy, accurate information to continually engage with the public, and key stakeholders about the day to day operations on the network and planned maintenance and improvement schemes.

The responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:

  • Answering and professionally responding to queries and complaints from members of the public and other stakeholders to provide a broad range of responses including: network status, roadwork advice, route advice and destination information
  • Disseminating relevant bilingual information to the travelling public through the use of Traffic Wales Website and through Twitter
  • Planning and creating engaging social media content to promote the Traffic Wales services.
  • Capturing traffic and network related information from multiple sources including service providers, NMWTRA Operational and Streetworks staff, Welsh Government and private sector organisations e.g. Google, TomTom and Roadworks.org
  • Liaising with the relevant stakeholders including internal staff, Police, North and South Wales control room operators and network management staff
  • Monitoring media including press, web and social platforms.
  • Providing administrative support services to North & Mid Wales Trunk Road Agent (NMWTRA).

What will I need to be considered for the Communications Co-ordinator role?

We are looking for a confident, creative individual who has excellent communication skills and can confidently use social media and online tools to deliver the service effectively.

Communications experience and the ability to work on your own initiative, to tight deadlines is essential. The nature of our work means that you must be able to work reactively during major incidents, maintaining a high degree of confidentiality and discretion.

The role will require the applicant to work 12 hour shifts on a 4 days on, 4 days off basis to provide cover between the hours of 7:00am and 7:00pm. Applicants will also be expected to work overnight on an on-duty rota basis.

For this post, you must be able demonstrate GSRh Advanced Language skills, which means you’re able to converse fluently and write formal communications in both Welsh and English. You can find out more by visiting Gwynedd Council’s Linguistic Framework.
