About the role

We are looking to recruit a Flood and Water Management Technician to join our Flood and Water management Team on a permanent, full time basis.

Under the general direction of the Flood & Water Management Senior Engineer, on a day to day basis you will: 

  • Assist with the provision of information for the Flood & Water Management webpages and to ensure that such information is kept up to date
  • Develop and  maintain a good understanding for the role and responsibilities of the SAB in regard to the duties set out in the Flood and Water Management Act 2010
  • Act as a point of contact in the provision of specialist  advice in relation to SuDS
  • To deputise for the Assistant FWM Engineer as and when required
  • To appraise Planning Consultations from Land Drainage and Coast Protection perspective in accordance with Service policy and practice
  • Regularly attend site visits and meetings with developers and members of the public
  • Undertake site inspections  during  periods  of inclement    weather in order to witness and record drainage/flood issues

 We are looking to recruit an individual with:

  • Experience in the use of technical software such as:
    •  AutoCAD
    • GIS systems
    • Asset Database Software
    • FEH / Flood Estimation Software
  • Experience of  performance  management  techniques  and their application
  • Good working knowledge of Local Government environment and the duties of Local Highways Authority or alternative applicable experience
  • Ability to prioritise workloads and work to deadlines
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision and as a team member
  • Excellent interpersonal and negotiating skills
  • Excellent communication and reporting skills both orally and written

In addition to the above, we require an individual with a degree of fluency in the Welsh language. A successful applicant without the required Welsh language skill will be fully supported to reach the desired standard within two years of appointment.
