About the role

Are you 16 and just starting out in the world of work? Are you looking for a career change or returning to work following unemployment or a career break? An apprenticeship with us offers an excellent opportunity to learn new skills and develop your career whilst earning a wage!

Ceredigion County Council is looking to appoint an Apprentice Care and Support Worker to work as part of its dedicated, friendly and experienced team at Hafan Deg Residential Care Home, based in Lampeter.

If you’re looking for the opportunity to make a real difference and pursue a career within health and social care, as well as gaining a Level 2 apprenticeship qualification in adult health and social care, we would welcome an application from you.

The job of an Apprentice Care and Support Worker Level 1 is a physical one, and you will learn how to support a range of individuals who have care and support needs using a person-centered approach. Care and support workers are expected to be friendly, caring and sensitive with good verbal communication and listening skills, as well as the ability to demonstrate kindness and compassion to residents and families.

On the job training will be provided and you will undertake a Foundation (Level 2) Apprenticeship in Health and Social Care Adults. Your apprenticeship qualification will be delivered online, however some training activities will be face to face. The qualification will develop your ability to practically support the health and care needs of adults and is made up of three main elements:

  • All Wales Induction Framework – Joint Community Induction a series of online and virtual workshops and workbooks.
  • Core qualification – develops and assesses your knowledge (delivered by online and virtual workshops).
  • Practice qualification – focuses on and assesses your practical competencies on the job. This is delivered via self-directed study (for example producing plans, observations and reflections and with the support of an assessor who will visit you in the workplace or conduct online meetings approximately once a month).

Due to apprenticeship eligibility criteria, applications cannot be accepted from any applicant who has already gained a similar qualification at Level 3 or above in the role applied for.

Please note that once submitted, all applications will be subject to apprenticeship training provider eligibility checks. This is completed using the information you have provided on your application form. Please ensure that you read the job description and person specification thoroughly, as well as the FAQs on our early careers web page to check the eligibility requirements.

This is an excellent stepping stone towards making the most of the career opportunities in the council and developing a strong foundation of health and social care skills. If you enjoy helping others and have a caring and compassionate nature, this could be the role for you.
