About the role

The Council is seeking to appoint a person to serve as an Independent Member on the Ethics & Standards Committee (established under the Standards Committees (Wales) Regulations 2001.

The Ethics & Standards Committee promotes and maintains high standards of conduct by members of the Council and assists in the observation of the members Code of Conduct. Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Not currently be a member or officer of Ceredigion County Council, any other County Council or County Borough Council, National Park Authority, Fire Authority or Town or Community Council
  • Not be a spouse or civil partner of any of the above
  • Not be a former member or officer of Ceredigion County Council
  • Not have been a member or officer of any other County Council, County Borough Council, National Park Authority or Fire Authority during the past three years
  • Be flexible in attending meetings at short notice
  • Possess good listening and team-working skills
  • Be able to analyse factual and evidential material and to form sound unbiased judgements
  • Demonstrate objectivity, discretion and personal integrity
  • Show respect for others and understanding of diversity issues
  • Have an interest in, and knowledge of, local matters and the development of the local community
  • Participate in the promotion of high ethical standards and compliance with the Members Code of Conduct and contribute towards the effective discharge of the statutory role and responsibilities of the Ethics & Standards Committee.

Fees will be paid for undertaking duties in line with the Council’s Schedule of Member Remuneration (currently £105 half day/£210 full day) plus travel expenses at £45p per mile.
