About the role

We are looking to recruit a School crossing Patrol officer to join our Road Safety team.

The purpose of the post is to ensure the safety of children crossing the road at a designated point between specified times without detriment to the welfare of other road users.

On a day to day basis you will:   

  • Arrive at your crossing location on time wearing the correct uniform and with the stop sign
  • Stop pedestrians from crossing the road until it is safe for them to do so, once you have ensured all traffic has stopped moving in either direction
  • Carry out the Council’s policy with regard to the School Crossing Patrol service which includes Health and Safety procedures
  • Maintain control over the children who are awaiting the School Crossing Patrol’s instruction to cross the highway

We are looking to recruit an individual who is reliable and confident, a good time keeper and communicator able to adapt quickly and appropriately to changing situations, who is confident working in the highway.

Someone with the ability to supervise children and show a caring attitude towards them, the ability to work without supervision, and someone who is able to communicate clearly and pleasantly at all times.
