About the role

Corporate Advert for Assistant Site Supervisor 

We are looking to recruit an Assistant Site Supervisor to join our Highways Development Team on a permanent, full time basis. 

Under the general direction of the Project Managers Representative or other as directed by the Project Manager to inspect and supervise the construction of engineering works by contractors with emphasis on quality of materials and workmanship as well as health and safety. 

On a day to day basis you will:

– Under the direction of the Project Manager’s Representative or the Project Manager, to assist in site supervision of highways structural and civil engineering works. 

– Monitor, inspect and supervise the schemes. Check that contractors are performing as per the contract documents and that materials and workmanship comply with specification. Monitor actual progress on site against agreed programme. Measure up works and assist the Project Manager’s Representative with preparing and checking valuations. 

– Issue site instructions, Schedules of Defects, Dayworks instructions etc to contractors. Submit progress reports etc as and when required by the Project Manager’s Representative. 

– Communicate with contractors, landowners, statutory undertakers, the public etc. in relation to accommodations and complaints. Escalate unresolved issues to the Supervisor or Project Managers Representative. 

The post holder will be expected to adopt a flexible attitude to the duties, which may have to be varied (after discussion with the post holder subject to the needs of the service and in keeping with the general profile of the post. 

To promote the work of the Group by publicity, information and presentations utilising all forms of information technology. To ensure all the Health & Safety requirements of the Contractor are achieved including the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations. 

The Post holder will be expected to travel to and between sites as required and be expected to make use of accommodation provided on sites. Occasionally, depending on the contractors programme, the post holder will be expected to work weekends, night shifts etc. A suitable vehicle will be provided by the Council. 

Assist with monitoring and evaluating contractors performance in compliance with the appropriate contract framework Key Performance Indicators 

We are looking to recruit an individual:

– excellent interpersonal and negotiating skills 

– team player and highly motivated 

– the ability to use Microsoft Office software and GIS Systems 

– customer care focused service delivery 

– full valid UK driving licence 

– good analytical skills 

– ability to work under minimal supervision 

In addition to the above, we require an individual with a degree of fluency in the Welsh language. A successful applicant without the required Welsh language skill will be fully supported to reach the desired standard within two years of appointment.
