About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a highly organised and committed individual, with excellent communication skills and experience of effective partnership working, to join our Licensing Team, on a permanent, full-time basis, as a Licensing Officer.

About the role

This post plays a vital role in the Council’s licensing function, providing high levels of support to the Council’s licensing committees, and supporting wider Public Protection objectives. The successful candidate must be able to undertake activities and take a lead in the administration and enforcement of all licensing and registration functions of the Council as directed by the Trading Standards and Licensing Manager.

The successful person will be expected to undertake the full range of professional and specialist duties of a local authority licensing officer to ensure the efficient and effective discharge of the Service’s and Council’s duties and policies. The post will involve working early mornings, evenings and weekends as and when required.

On a day-to-day basis you will:

  • be required to process applications in respect of various aspects of the Local Authority Licensing functions
  • ensure that all premises, persons, activities, vehicles, etc., which require a licence issued by, or need registration with, the Council, comply with the relevant statutory provisions and any associated operating conditions
  • provide support and advice to businesses, licence applicants and the public, carry out routine inspections, liaise with a range of other teams, departments and external partner organisations, investigate complaints and take enforcement action in relation to relevant legislation as and when appropriate
  • carry out a range of other licensing functions such as dealing with debtors, writing reports, attending licensing committees and Court as well as contribute to the team’s work to ensure that required statutory policies are in place
