About the role

We are looking for a creative and enthusiastic Designated Coordinator (DESCo), with previous experience of working within the administrative field of ALN, to join the ALN, Wellbeing and Inclusion team in Ceredigion.

The role of Designated Coordinator (DESCo) is essential to ensure that the Local Authority fully complies with its statutory duties under the Additional Learning Needs and Tribunal (Wales) Act 2018 (ALNET). The post holder will provide professional advice, guidance and support to families, schools and external agencies, ensuring that learners with ALN receive timely, coherent and high-quality support.

The successful candidate will:

  • promote the effective understanding and implementation of the Welsh ALN Code, through effective bilingual communication both internally and externally
  • co-ordinate multi-agency person-centred meetings
  • develope, scrutinise and support the implementation of statutory Individual Development Plans (IDPs)
  • monitor inclusive practices and ensure they are consistently embedded across education settings
  • promote the voice of the child and family, facilitating effective communication, supporting conflict resolution, and fostering strong relationships with a wide range of stakeholders

As well as direct support, the post holder will:

  • keep accurate and up-to-date records
  • monitor and review the impact of ALN provision
  • co-ordinate school referrals for additional support
  • ensure that all grant funding expenditure by the Local Authority and Welsh Government is fully compliant with the statutory terms, conditions and reporting requirements
  • organise decision-making panels and internal moderation panels, and disseminate decisions appropriately
  • contribute to the strategic planning of the service by identifying gaps and barriers, reducing reliance on reactive communication, and modelling best practice for school staff and local authority officers
  • manage high levels of communication by working effectively with internal teams and external agencies, ensuring that all education settings, including those outside the county, meet the needs set out in the IDPs and meet statutory obligations

We believe work-life balance is very important. To support you in achieving this, you will have access to the following discretionary benefits:

  • Hybrid Working: Subject to certain conditions being met, you may choose to work from home or in an office location.
  • Flexi-time: Hours may be worked within a defined bandwidth, Monday to Friday, subject to service needs.

We welcome applications from candidates seeking a secondment. It is recommended that line manager/employer permission is sought before applying to ensure you may return to your substantive post once the secondment has ceased.
